“As a seventh grade student in a convent school in England, I encountered my English and Drama teacher for the first time on a September morning in 1977.  She possessed an incredible literary mind, sparking the creative fire in the imaginations of every one of us who experienced her.  Joining forces with her musician husband, she possessed the unique ability to lead even the most awkward of shy teenagers to reveal their voice through the spoken and written word, and the power of song.  I was one of them.  My exploration into the transformational power of voice works through the crafts of storytelling, creative writing, poetry and drama had begun.”

My Inspiration

This early experience of studying under an inspirational English and Drama teacher proved a pivotal moment, reinforcing the profound impact that can and does result in making the right placements for our children.

When guided by the right academic mentor, students benefit from a transformative educational journey that fundamentally enhances their life chances and redefines their future trajectories.

Educating since 1994

I have been an educator working in school settings both in the UK and internationally since 1994. After twenty years of working within school settings, I established my own educational service in offering one to one support for primarily international students, initially founding Enrichment Learning Educational Services in Dubai, United Arab Emirates in 2010.  Having established myself as a well respected tutor and mentor within the Dubai College community, referral based admissions became my chosen approach to  termly intakes for students under my mentorship programmes.

Allowing Students to Excel

The Tutorial House reflects the bespoke and discreet service that I now provide after developing tried and tested methods to allow my students to successfully achieve established targets whilst developing confidence, critical thinking skills and independent study skills.

It also allows me to source suitable tutors who work in areas beyond my expertise bringing a team approach to allow students to excel.

My Education

I studied Child Psychology at Hereford College before majoring in English Literature and Religious Studies at Cardiff University, part of the Russell Group of UK universities, where I developed my passion for poetry, song writing and Victorian novels. Later, I trained as a teacher at Essex University where I was awarded a Post Graduate Certificate in Education.

My Career

Throughout my career, I have been Head of Literacy and Music at various schools, being fully trained and experienced in teaching the British National Curriculum Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 5.

Given my chosen specialism of English Literature and Language and Early Literacy, I  was appointed as a student teacher mentor and trainer for the teacher training programmes at Middlesex University, supporting new graduates undergoing school placements.

An integral part of this role was acting as a quality control assessor for school lesson plans, differentiation and lesson delivery, developing intervention strategies for improving teacher performance.

I have formal training and extensive experience using the following:

  • Formal training and extensive experience with the British Early Years Foundation Stage Profile
  • Training and experience in delivering the International Primary Years Programme (PYP) curriculum, MYP programme and IB Diploma curriculum
  • Trained in a variety of phonics programmes, including Read Write Inc, Jolly Phonics, and Letters and Sounds
  • Specialised in teaching the upper primary age range during initial training
  • Expanded knowledge of the English curriculum to GCSE and A Level syllabuses
  • Experience teaching to a range of UK and international examining boards, including Edexcel, Eduqas, Cambridge, IELTS, and Cambridge International English
  • Experience as a community TESL teacher for refugees in Waltham Forest, London
  • Applying best-practice scaffolding techniques from early-career primary teaching to support High School students in essay writing, text interpretation and analysis, and constructing engaging discourse
